I do not intend to question IV and its members who are pretty diligent about things, are entirely trustworthy and neither have they given us any reason to think otherwise. IMHO the monthly thing does not work. Some people cannot afford monthly payments due to other commitments (some are less fortunate than others). They may opt for one time payments rather than monthly payments.
I think what we need is target oriented funding drives. For example:
What are the objectives for the lobbying effort this year and consequently how much money do we need for lobbying efforts? $100,000, $200,000 or $500,000
By putting collection targets up front we can direct our energies towards that target. I know that every cent counts and every dollar will be beneficial. But if we don't know and don't communicate what our target is we can never focus on the goal. A monetary target for a clear objective is something many people can relate to and a one time payment is more attractive than monthly payments.
Cheers

So please ask for your rights but remember you are in their country, nobody forced you to come here, and beggars can't be choosers.
Not everyone is an economic refugee and it should never be assumed to be the case or status quo. We pay taxes just like everyone else while some invest here and have a right to be represented by whomever makes decisions in congress besides we do pay taxes that goes towards their salaries and maintaining congressional offices. What would the US be like if the founders of immigrant founded or co-founded companies had decided to found their companies in other countries ? What if Google, Ebay, Intel were Russian, French or Hungarian companies instead ? Your point is not lost though, immigration is a priviledge not a right. If they deny us this priviledge we shall reluctantly leave but it should not assumed that we shall be the one's to suffer instead this economy will feel that impact. This is a global economy with many opportunities out there.
I wonder if the bashers of the H1-B program knew that :
More than 82,000 U.S. workers and professionals have completed training through programs funded by the H-1B fees as of December 31, 2005, according to the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration. In addition, the Bush Administration recently has used the H-1B fees to provide multi-year grants to communities for training and economic revitalization. Through the WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) initiative, the U.S. Department of Labor is providing $195 million in grants to thirteen regional economies.
or that :
The H-1B fees paid by companies have funded more than 40,000 scholarships for U.S. students in math and science through the National Science Foundation. The fees obtained from employers have also funded hands-on science programs for 80,000 middle and high school students and 3,700 teachers. In addition, more than 55,000 U.S. workers and professionals have received training through the H-1B fees paid by companies.

and one more point, we are never going to get treated with respect and equality, just get used to it. every American knows we left our country to come to his. he is always gonna look down upon us. Immigrants are never treated with love, respect and dignity, no matter which country they go to. Case in point, Bangladeshi and Nepali migrant workers in India. We treat them like dirt back home, so discrimination against immigrants is part of immigration process. hopefully our ABCD offspring's will face less of it
Excuse me ?? Why did you leave your country and come here ? Your motivations maybe totally different than mine, so don't assume they are the same. For the reason I came over here, why would any 'American' treat me like dirt ? Many countries in Asia are not lands of the immigrant like USA. So your anology of treating migrant workers like 'dirt' to folks over here the same way is totally wrong. Please for heaven sake do some reading before you open your mouth again...you are talking nonsense man....people who are encouraging you are perhaps doing it to see you make a bigger fool of yourself...get off the forums do some reading.

I saw some postings saying that USCIS can assume the name check is done and is OK if FBI does not get back in 6 months and thats how they managed to approve all those cases in June, is this correct?

i agree with ash0210...there is a lot of "money" discussion going on lately.
The idea should be to convert thus-far-non-contributors to contributors - not to make closed forums - you wont expand the market that way. The 3 month trial idea is a good one - but people will find ways to abuse it also.
PS: I am a monthly contributor.

a special "Debate thread" (not fight :) ) where anything goes is probably not a bad idea at this point. where certain members who want to debate can be granted access
The constant hijacking of every thread is getting tiresome. :(
Its only the instigators and flamers, who would want that thread. Personal attacks should be banned on threads. Most people are happy just debating.
The person initiating or using provocation for a personal attack should be banned after a couple of warnings. The victim has no such restrictions and is allowed to retaliate as much as he wants.

Based on this poll, anybody with PD of Jun2002 onwards should consider Porting to EB2.
Any thoughts?
It won't help, if everyone starts porting, EB-2 queue will face a similar situation. Porting doesn't happen soon either. With delays in I-140 processing, it may be close to 2 years before you could file for a fresh I-485 with a request to port the EB-3 priority date. Note, this is a grey area and doesn't guarantee you the old PD. If the company is willing to foot the bill, go for it or else IMO it is not worth spending your own money.
Legislative or Administrative fix is our best option. We should focus on the recapture bill and other initiatives by IV, contribute and participate in the action items. We, as a community should raise enough money for lobbying etc.,

Hello IVians,
As we all await our GCs, I thot we can explore some investment vehicles.
Does anyone here have experience with commodity trading?
Can we trade in commodities on H1 or L1 status?
Is it too risky like forex trading?
Who are the online brokers offer commodity trading?
Is there a minimum account balance / trade required every month or so?
Pls share your experience. Thanks!

Mr Brown,
Should I say that all of you those who bought homes and are having a life bought a home with 0% down and interest only loan so that you can save your taxes now and if your GC does not come through in 5 years, you will walk out with out any loss as you made hefty deductions and haven't paid single penny towards the mortgage and simply go to Timbuktu or Krakovia. I will not!. Just because you chose to buy a home and have a life does not mean that others dont. Every one lives their own lives. Those who dont buy a home live a life of their choice. Stop judging people. GC was not a risk or hindrance to you in buying a home but could be for Joe the Analyst. You might have deep pockets, Joe the analyst might not or have other commitments
Your statements (above in bold) are contradictory. On one hand you don't want us to judge you but you return us the favor anyway.
Let me be clear here. I was talking about people who come here whining about how they can't buy a house ONLY because of the gc/immigration laws etc. I am not talking about Joe the Analyst (nicely copied BTW :-))
All I am saying is to stop whining and do better to withstand what you cannot change.
BTW, I put 10% down on my house and I've got the usual commitments.

Hi
My wife appeared for Visa interview on 6th and yet to receive the passport. we booked tickets for this weekend and seems we have to reschedule. I sent a mail to NIV and no response as of now. This is of concern. can anyone tell me about the normal turnaround time for H4 Visas these days?
Suresh
It is very important to put proper subject in your e-mail. Please refer to the chennai consulate website for more information. Because of the volume of e-mails they'll be getting, they don't respond to normal e-mails. I got the response the next day. I don't know if i am a isolated case but it doesn't hurt to follow the instructions in the website.

How about the following:
Some IO was just playing around at MySQL database prompt. Just browsing without modifying any data... but it was recorded as LUD.
They were training new IO's and showing them some old applications as examples. And it registered as fresh LUD's.
They were performing data-mining/archiving on some old apps...I say, unless and until you receive a letter from them, just chill and get back to worrying about retrogression :-)
